NEWS BRIEFS: Silo Closing for Summer

Are you a fan of Carl’s Jr., Pizza Hut and Taco Bell on campus? Your last chance to frequent those eateries is this Friday (June 16) — because, not only are they closing for the summer, but they won’t be back in the fall.

In fact, all of the Silo will be closed for a remodeling project this summer. But you’ll still find four or more food trucks outside, all summer long.

NEWS BRIEFS: Builders Sought for Student Housing

�°��ϲ��Ļ��Ϣ Davis is seeking proposals to build housing to provide more than 2,775 beds for students with families as well as graduate and transfer students, to open by 2020. The successful proposals will optimize affordability and build community.

NEWS BRIEFS: No More Teaching With SmartSite After June

It’s really happening. The instructional use of SmartSite will end when spring term concludes in June.

“As planned, SmartSite will no longer be an active learning management system once spring quarter ends, without exceptions,” said David Levin, director of Academic Technology Services (ATS) in Information and Educational Technology.

“We want everyone to know this is a firm deadline,” he said. “About 85 percent of instructors are already using its replacement, �°��ϲ��Ļ��Ϣ Davis Canvas, and we don’t want the final 15 percent to be left behind.”

Progress continues on the Web interface to access grades. We expect that it will be available Friday (May 27).

UPDATED: SmartSite Remains Offline

Update 1:30 p.m. May 23 from IET's TechNews:

Scriba, which hosts the SmartSite learning management system for �°��ϲ��Ļ��Ϣ Davis, missed its deadline of restoring the service by 11 a.m. today after taking it offline late on May 20 for emergency maintenance.

As of 1:30 p.m. today, Scriba had not said when it expects SmartSite to be restored. �°��ϲ��Ļ��Ϣ Davis is pressing the company for answers, including when it will implement its backup restoration plans if the outage continues.
