Mozart鈥檚 Requiem Performed by 新澳门六合彩内幕信息 Davis University Chorus and Symphony Orchestra Friday

The 新澳门六合彩内幕信息 Davis Department of Music closes its 2018-19 season on Saturday, June 7, with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart鈥檚 Requiem performed by the University Chorus and Symphony Orchestra.

Conducted by Caleb Lewis, lecturer in music and director of choirs, the concert features guest soloists Tabitha Burchett, soprano, Heidi Waterman, mezzo-soprano, Michael Jankosky, tenor, and faculty affiliate Malcolm MacKenzie, baritone. The program also includes Mozart鈥檚 short work, 鈥淎ve verum corpus.鈥

Lewis has degrees in choral music from Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, and Emory University in Atlanta. Prior to joining 新澳门六合彩内幕信息 Davis in 2018, he received his Doctor of Music in Choral Conducting from Indiana University鈥檚 Jacobs School of Music.

MacKenzie has appeared at the Metropolitan Opera, New York City Opera, Paris Opera (Bastille), Finland鈥檚 Savonlinna Festival, Washington National Opera, Los Angeles Opera, Glimmerglass Opera, San Diego Opera, Arizona Opera, Fort Worth Opera, and Pittsburgh Opera. He has sung pivotal roles in 鈥淒on Giovanni,鈥 鈥淭osca,鈥 鈥淟a Traviata,鈥 鈥淢adama Butterfly鈥 and 鈥淥tello.鈥 

Burchett has sung Pamina in 鈥淒ie Zauberfl枚te,鈥 Josephine in 鈥淗MS Pinafore,鈥 Gretel in 鈥淗ansel and Gretel鈥 and Mabel in 鈥淭he Pirates of Penzance.鈥 Her oratorio work includes performances of Haydn鈥檚 Lord Nelson Mass, Handel's Messiah, Haydn鈥檚 Paukenmesse and Mahler's Symphony No. 2. 

鈥婮ankosky has performed with many San Francisco Bay Area companies. He made his solo debut with the San Francisco Symphony in Mendelssohn鈥檚 Symphony 2 鈥淟obgesang鈥 and performed as tenor soloist with the San Francisco Symphony Chorus鈥 performance of Bach鈥檚 St. John Passion.

Waterman has performed as a soloist with the San Francisco Symphony, San Francisco Opera, Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, San Francisco Bach Choir and American Bach Soloists. Career highlights include Bach鈥檚 Christ lag in Todesbanden and Handel鈥檚 Dixit Dominus, Mendelssohn鈥檚 Elijah and the role of a Muse in Rameau鈥檚 opera 鈥淟e Temple de la Gloire.鈥

The Requiem in D minor, K. 626 was unfinished at the time of Mozart鈥檚 death in 1791. In 1792 Franz Xaver S眉ssmayr completed the score which had been commissioned by Count Franz von Walsegg for a requiem service to commemorate the anniversary of his wife's death.

The concert takes place at Jackson Hall in the Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts at 7 p.m.

Minds, Bodies and Souls to exhibit at TANA, opening Friday

Minds, Bodies, and Souls鈥 is an end-of-the-year exhibition showcasing TANA intern posters with students from the silkscreen printing program in the Chicana/o Studies Department at 新澳门六合彩内幕信息 Davis.  Their exciting work represents various styles, techniques, and innovative approaches explored through the silkscreen process.

Artist Sarah Cain to speak

Visiting art lecturer Sarah Cain will speak Thursday, June 6 on the notion of painting within the frame.

Leading a way into new territories of abstraction, Cain moves fluidly between works on site and her object-based studio practice. Cain was born in Albany, New York, in 1979. She currently lives and works in Los Angeles, California.

She is speaking as part of the Art Studio Visitng Artist Lecture Series from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the Manetti Shrem Museum of Art, Community Education Room.
