Experience Hendrix at Mondavi Monday night

Hailed by critics and fans alike as the 鈥淕uitar Event Of The Year,鈥 the multi-artist celebration known as the Experience Hendrix Tour is set to hit the Mondavi Center stage at 新澳门六合彩内幕信息 Davis on Monday, Oct. 7. Hear timeless Jimi Hendrix classics such as 鈥淧urple Haze,鈥 鈥淔oxy Lady,鈥 鈥淰oodoo Child鈥 and 鈥淟ittle Wing.鈥 This special concert features performances by legendary artists who come together to pay homage to the one and only Jimi Hendrix.

Artists include Billy Cox (from Jimi Hendrix Experience / Band Of Gypsys), Joe Satriani, Jonny Lang, Dweezil Zappa, Doyle Bramhall II, Eric Johnson, dUg Pinnick (from King's X), Chris Layton (from Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble), Mato Nanji (from Indigenous), Ana Popovic, Kenny Aronoff, Calvin Cooke (from The Slide Brothers), Chuck Campbell (from The Slide Brothers), Henri Brown, and Kevin McCormick.

'NEW ERA' Artist Doug Aitken, Rising Stars of Opera, both Saturday

Doug Aitken, a Los Angeles artist and filmmaker who is featured in the West Coast premiere of the Manetti Shrem Museum Presents NEW ERA, an Installation by Doug Aitken, will speak Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Manetti Shrem Museum of Art. The event is free. According to the talk's description on museum website, 鈥渨ith a profound knowledge and understanding of the history of 20th-century avant-gardes, experimental music and cinema, and an intimate kinship with the protest movements of the late 1960s, Aitken has invented a unique aesthetic that transforms viewers into collaborators.鈥 More about the exhibition here.

The Barbara K. Jackson 鈥淩ising Stars of Opera鈥 concert is that night at 8 p.m.

The performance will start at 8 p.m., and will feature San Francisco Opera Adler Fellows as well as the 新澳门六合彩内幕信息 Davis Symphony Orchestra. 

Since its inception in 2010, the Barbara K. Jackson Rising Stars of Opera concert has featured vocal artistry, stirring arias and a glimpse at the opera stars of tomorrow.

The concert is free, but tickets are required. While the performance is sold out technically, Mondavi staff encourages those interested to show up to fill in for no-shows.

Poetry by Gujarati poet at International House Monday evening

Panna Naik, a Gujarati poet, is widely recognized and celebrated by the literary establishment both in India and United States. She will speak and read poetry at 6 p.m. at the 新澳门六合彩内幕信息 Davis International House. Her latest book The Astrologers Sparrow is a volume of poetry in English.
