Chancellor Katehi's statement on the аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÄÚÄ»ÐÅÏ¢ Merced stabbing incident

Chancellor Linda P.B. Katehi today (Nov. 4) issued the following statement:

I know you share my deep concerns about the stabbing incidents that occurred at аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÄÚÄ»ÐÅÏ¢ Merced this morning. We are grateful that all four victims are expected to recover. We extend our thoughts and prayers to the families and to the entire Merced community. аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÄÚÄ»ÐÅÏ¢ Davis stands ready to support our sister аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÄÚÄ»ÐÅÏ¢ campus in any way we can.

While violence on campuses and in schools across the country continues to occur on a regular basis, we hope that communities and our country can learn from these terribly troubling incidents and find a positive path forward.

I want you to know that аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÄÚÄ»ÐÅÏ¢ Davis has resources available for students, faculty and staff here who may be in need. The Student Health and Wellness Center has counselors available 24 hours a day by phone at (530) 752-0871. For employees, the Academic and Staff Assistance Program (ASAP) provides counseling services for faculty, staff and families. ASAP can be reached at (530) 752-2727. If you notice someone in distress, please encourage them to utilize these resources.

We also have comprehensive emergency management plans, including the WarnMe rapid notification system. I urge you to visit the and check that your contact information, especially mobile phone numbers to receive text messages, is up-to-date.
