THE DOWNLOAD: The Team That Saved the Tailgate

News
Seven men pose in front of Aggie Stadium gate and sign.
The field inside was OK (it’s artificial!). These men were among the Grounds and Landscape Services staff who helped save Tailgate Field outside the stadium. Pictured, from left: Back row — Lorenzo Guzman, Kevin Galart, Gabriel Gonzalez Jr. and Michael Bauer. Front row — Erik Manriquez, Eric Hoeschen and Jimmy King. Not pictured: Cliff Ota and John Taylor.

Picture this: It’s Saturday morning, Dec. 1, 2018. The Aggies are preparing to play at home in their first postseason football game since moving up to the NCAA’s Division I. Record crowds are expected not only for the game, but the pregame tailgate at the corner of Hutchison Drive and La Rue Road — field conditions, permitting that is.

On this day, field conditions were not permitting.

Read how our grounds crew saved the day, in this story from Shawn Reid, communications intern, and Katie Hetrick, senior communications manager, in Finance, Operations and Administration.
