A service for Barry Swartwood, a аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÄÚÄ»ÐÅÏ¢ Davis graduate who became a decorated campus police officer, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at Woodland United Methodist Church, 212 Second St. He died July 20 at the age of 63.

He graduated from аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÄÚÄ»ÐÅÏ¢ Davis in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology, then worked as a park interpretive specialist for the California Department of Parks and Recreation for four years before joining the campus Police Department.

He retired in 2018 after 33 years on the force, during which time he earned the Officer of the Year Award and Lifetime Achievement Award, as well as the аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÄÚÄ»ÐÅÏ¢ Medal of Valor. He had served as detective sergeant, patrol sergeant and, lastly, training sergeant. He was a member of the department's firearms team for 28 years and served as the department’s range master for more than 20 years.

He enjoyed spending time in the mountains with family and friends at his beloved cabin.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Pamela (Collier) Swartwood, also a аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÄÚÄ»ÐÅÏ¢ Davis retiree; two sons, Devin and Connor; a brother, Brian; and a grandson, Emmett. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lola and Donald Swartwood.

A has been set up for people wishing to post tributes to Dean Emeritus Winston Ko, who died July 26 at the age of 76.

Ko spent his entire professional career at аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÄÚÄ»ÐÅÏ¢ Davis, starting as a postdoc and then serving as a member of the faculty of the Department of Physics for 41 years. He led the former Division of Mathematical and Physical Sciences from 2003 to 2013 when he retired. Read his obituary here.

His family planned a private burial service. A memorial service is planned for the fall.
