A Message on Campus Security

To the campus community,

Chancellor Gary S. May
May

The safety of the аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÄÚÄ»ÐÅÏ¢ Davis community is our No. 1 priority, so it may seem unsettling to some that in the past two weeks, the аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÄÚÄ»ÐÅÏ¢ Davis Police Department has issued a number of crime alerts. These recent incidents include residential burglaries, car break-ins and violent robberies — unfortunately, a recent trend in our region. Students have also been victimized by phone scams.

We want to assure you that the police department is working to investigate each incident, and this message serves as a reminder that if you see something suspicious please contact the police department, the information you provide can be very helpful.

Our university is not unique in experiencing a rise in opportunistic crimes, such as people stealing valuables left in plain sight. There are unfortunately people that come to our campus to commit crimes. Our goal is to make аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÄÚÄ»ÐÅÏ¢ Davis and аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÄÚÄ»ÐÅÏ¢ Davis Health safe places to live, work and learn. It’s equally important that we prepare each of you with knowledge and resources that can help you avoid being a victim.

aimed at helping you stay safe in your residence, on a bike, while you’re out-and-about and more. While our officers will promptly respond to concerns you report, you are often best prepared to ensure your immediate safety. This requires staying alert to your surroundings, locking doors and windows, and keeping valuables out of plain sight.

Please share this information with your friends and colleagues and if you see something suspicious, remember to call 911. By working together we can ensure a safe, friendly, and vibrant Aggie community.
