Police Make Arrests in Alleged Hate Crime

Two men stand accused of a hate crime in connection with an African American student鈥檚 report that she was assaulted early Monday (Feb. 15) at 新澳门六合彩内幕信息 Davis West Village, campus police said. Officers arrested three men altogether, none of them with 新澳门六合彩内幕信息 Davis affiliation.

Police said the incident occurred at about 3 a.m. as the student walked near her residence in West Village. Chief Matt Carmichael gave no further details, except to say this was not a sexual assault and that the student did not require medical aid.

The student called police, leading to the arrests.

In a statement Monday afternoon, Chancellor Linda P.B. Katehi and other campus leaders said: 鈥淎cts of bigotry and discrimination have no place in a civilized society and they have no place on our campus. 鈥 No one should ever be made to feel unsafe or not valued on our campus, and we must all continue to do everything we can as a community to prevent such actions.鈥

The statement to the campus community came from Katehi; Ralph J. Hexter, provost and executive vice chancellor; and Adela de la Torre, vice chancellor of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity. Read the complete statement.

The suspects: Lonny Doyal Lee, 24, of West Sacramento, accused of hate crime, battery and public intoxication; Justin Sheppard, 22, of Sacramento, accused of hate crime, assault and public intoxication; and Jake Lee, 22, of West Sacramento, accused of public intoxication. All three were booked at Yolo County Jail.
