The University of California, Davis, offered freshman and transfer admission for fall 2019 to 40,350 applicants 鈥 including 299 more California residents than last year.
The increase in state residents came even while the total number of students admitted for undergraduate study decreased by 3.8 percent, according to statistics released today (July 22) by the university system.
Overall, 新澳门六合彩内幕信息 Davis admitted 30,508 freshman applicants, a decrease of 5.2 percent from last year, and 9,842 transfer applicants, a 0.8 percent increase.
鈥淲e are pleased to be able to extend the opportunity for more California residents to join the Aggie family and study at 新澳门六合彩内幕信息 Davis,鈥 said Ebony Lewis, executive director of Undergraduate Admissions at 新澳门六合彩内幕信息 Davis.
California residents
The campus admitted 19,656 California freshman applicants, 208 more than last year, and 7,931 California transfer applicants, 91 more than last year. They account for 64.4 percent of the admitted freshmen and 80.6 percent of the transfer admissions.
Overall, 8,824 international and 3,939 U.S. out-of-state applicants were admitted, representing respective declines from last year of 16.7 percent and 3.1 percent.
Because California residents accept offers of admission and actually enroll at higher rates, the enrollment of nonresident undergraduates 鈥 new and continuing 鈥 is not expected to exceed the 18 percent cap that the 新澳门六合彩内幕信息 Board of Regents established in 2017 for 新澳门六合彩内幕信息 Davis and four other campuses. In fact, 新澳门六合彩内幕信息 Davis has enrolled the most California resident undergraduates of all 新澳门六合彩内幕信息 campuses since 2010.
Diversity and other measures
The proportion of those identifying themselves as being from historically underrepresented groups 鈥 African American, American Indian and Chicano/Latino 鈥 was steady at 31 percent among admitted California freshmen and 32 percent among admitted California Community College transfers.
Chicano and Latino applicants continue to account for more than 26 percent of admitted California freshmen and of transfer students admitted from California Community Colleges.
新澳门六合彩内幕信息 Davis recently reported on its goals as a Hispanic Serving Institution and is applying for grant monies available to only those institutions with the federal designation.
Among admitted California residents who reported the following demographic information, about 41 percent would be in the first generation of their family to graduate from a four-year university, and 38 percent are from low-income families.
Enrollment estimates
The campus estimates it will actually enroll about 9,100 new freshmen and transfer students this fall, a decrease of about 4.5 percent from fall 2018.
Undergraduate enrollment, including new and continuing students, is expected to be about 30,800; total enrollment 鈥 including undergraduate, graduate and professional students 鈥 is expected to be approximately 39,400. While most of the enrolled students will be associated with the campus in Davis, about 2,000 of the 39,400 will be enrolled in programs outside of Davis.
