Twenty-three percent of Californians lived in poverty in 2014, according to the U.S. Census Bureau鈥檚 supplemental poverty measure.

  • Marianne Bitler, professor of economics, will present 鈥淟essons about the Safety Net: Evidence from the Research Community.鈥
  • Marianne Page, professor of economics and deputy director of the Center for Poverty Research, and Ross Thompson, distinguished professor of psychology, will present 鈥淐hildren and the Intergenerational Transmission of Poverty: Research Frontiers and Policy Implications.鈥
  • Erin Hamilton, assistant professor of sociology, will present The Poverty and Wellbeing of Unauthorized Immigrant Children and Children in Mixed-Status Families.鈥
  • Giovanni Peri, professor and chair of economics, will present 鈥淚mmigrants, Poverty and Welfare: How Do They Fare, How Do They Affect Natives?鈥

Across the four sessions, participants will summarize and discuss the state of poverty research and public policy over the past decade, and how research can better inform policy in the decade to come.
