Call it the Super Bowl of blood drives in the Sacramento area: the Causeway Classic Blood Drive, pitting аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÄÚÄ»ÐÅÏ¢ Davis against California State University, Sacramento, for blood donor bragging rights — around the same time the schools' football teams compete in the original Causeway Classic.
BloodSouce launched the Causeway Classic Blood Drive in 2008 and signed up nearly 19,000 participants in the first six years, for an average of about 3,100 donors a year, making the blood drive the most successful of BloodSource collections in high school and college settings in the Sacramento region.
Students make up a large portion of the donors, of course, but faculty and staff are also part of the success! As they will be again when the seventh annual Causeway Classic Blood Drive comes to the Quad the first week of November. If you are crunched for time, ask for a "fast-track pass" that allows you to go to the front of the line!
The winning school gets custody of the Causeway Classic Blood Drive’s perpetual trophy. аÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÄÚÄ»ÐÅÏ¢ Davis won the first three years, 2008-10, and Sacramento State followed with three wins in a row, 2011-13.
The trophy presentation is scheduled during the 61st annual Causeway Classic football game; kickoff is set for 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at Aggie Stadium.
