Last year, for the first 新澳门六合彩内幕信息 Davis Wears Red Day, our donation totaled $8,441. We鈥檙e hoping to beat that this year, just like we鈥檙e hoping for a heart formation with more than the 2,500 people who turned out in the rain last year.
Friday鈥檚 forecast, wouldn鈥檛 you know it, after one of the driest Januarys on record, indicates rain is almost certain at noon 鈥 but the 新澳门六合彩内幕信息 Davis Wears Red Day organizers said the event will go on! Bring your umbrella, or, better yet, grab yourself a clear poncho so your red shirt shows through 鈥 and remember, the Battle Heart Disease Fair will be sheltered by tents.
Live radio, Zumba and a Q&A
The fair will include a live, two-hour broadcast by radio station KSFM 102.5 FM 鈥 and, at 11:30 a.m., depending on the rain, a group Zumba exercise.
Amparo Villablanca, cardiologist, professor and director, Women鈥檚 Cardiovascular Medicine Program, will conduct a question-and-answer session at 11:45 a.m.
Dining Services will sell healthy snacks and beverages at a discount. (Or, if you like, wear red to any dining commons on Feb. 6 and get a discount there!)
The Alpha Pi Sigma sorority is once again organizing the Battle Heart Disease Fair. Confirmed participants include three student-run health clinics (Bayanihan, Imani and Tepati), 新澳门六合彩内幕信息 Davis Medical Center, Aggie Heart Association, Minority Association of Premedical Students (MAPS), Recognizing Illnesses Very Early and Responding (RIVER), Chican@s/Latin@s in Health Education (CHE), Alpha Phi and Alpha Pi Sigma sororities, Student Nutrition Association, Student Health and Counseling Services鈥 Health Promotion Department, and the Activities and Recreation Center.
Cocktails & Couture
With February being National Heart Month, 新澳门六合彩内幕信息 Davis will promote heart health awareness until the very last day of the month: Saturday, Feb. 28, the date for this year鈥檚 edition of The Power of Red: Cocktails & Couture, a benefit event hosted by Chancellor Linda P.B. Katehi.
鈥淭he Power of Red鈥 comes from the red dresses that will be debuted as this year鈥檚 additions to the 新澳门六合彩内幕信息 Davis Red Dress Collection. The dresses represent design students鈥 take on the national symbol for heart health awareness among women (it鈥檚 their leading cause of death).
The Power of Red: Cocktails & Couture is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Grand Nave Ballroom of the Sheraton Grand hotel, 1230 J St., Sacramento. Tickets are $250 per person, with proceeds going to the Women鈥檚 Cardiovascular Medicine Program and the Department of Design. Sponsorship opportunities are also available. For more information, contact Jean Wigglesworth at Ceremonies and Special Events, by phone (530) 754-2011, or email.
The Department of Design and the Women鈥檚 Cardiovascular Medicine Program launched the 新澳门六合彩内幕信息 Davis Red Dress project in 2000 with the goal of engaging women across generations in heart health awareness. Students have been adding to the collection every year since.
