Heghnar Zeitlian Watenpaugh, professor of art history, has been named a gold medal winner in the history category of the Independent Publisher Book Awards, for The Missing Pages: The Modern Life of a Medieval Manuscript, From Genocide to Justice (Stanford University Press, 2019).
Independent Publisher, a monthly digital publication, presents its Independent Publisher Book Awards, or 鈥淚PPYs,鈥 in dozens of categories, from poetry to fiction and nonfiction 鈥 425 winning titles in all this year, announced May 6. The awards are 鈥渄esigned to bring increased recognition to the deserving but often unsung titles published by independent authors and publishers.鈥
Watenpaugh鈥檚 book reconstructs the journey of illustrated pages of the Zeytun Gospel from their creation in 1256 in present-day Turkey to the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles in 1994.
The book previously earned the Der Mugrdechian Book Award from the Society for Armenian Studies.
