Support Fall Commencement!

You are invited to join our Commencement Ambassador team to help make this year’s fall undergraduate commencement an unforgettable experience for our graduates. Registration for commencement ambassadors is open. 

Fall Commencement will be held at the University Credit Union Center on campus Saturday, December 14. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and to conclude by noon.

What to Expect

Log in and view available roles, read the descriptions and choose your preferred assignment. On-site training details will be provided when your registration is confirmed. 

Roles

Each ambassador plays an important role in the commencement experience. Ambassadors have a range of duties, including greeting graduating students and guests, and welcoming faculty and members of the stage party.

Ambassadors on the main floor will have multiple roles throughout the ceremony, including directing graduates to their seats when they arrive, along with guiding them to and from the stage for their handshake and photo with Chancellor May. There is flexibility in roles in order to accommodate different abilities.

Our ambassadors will serve multiple roles, including:  

  • Guest Services
  • Graduate Support
  • Faculty/Stage Party Support
  • Graduate Movement
  • General Event Support
     

Parking

Parking is free of charge to volunteers. Ambassadors will receive parking instructions via their Ambassador Itinerary. 

Orientation

Friday, December 13 — Join the commencement team and your fellow ambassadors on the main floor of the U Center for training, a tour and Q&A session. On-site training details will be provided when your registration is confirmed.

  • Can I choose my role/assignment?
  • Yes, during the registration process, you can review job duties and select your role. 
  • What if I can't attend an orientation?
  • If you are unable to attend the in-person orientation on Friday, December 13, please e-mail Ceremonies and Special Events at ceremonies@ucdavis.edu as soon as possible so we can provide you with an alternative training.
  • What if I need to cancel my shift? 
  • We are depending on you to show up as scheduled, but if you are sick or unable to perform your shift, please email Ceremonies and Special Events at ceremonies@ucdavis.edu as soon as possible
  • How many Ambassadors are needed for the commencement ceremony?
  • The commencement planning team estimates needing 50-60 ambassadors for the ceremony. 
  • Who’s eligible to become a Commencement Ambassador?
  • The university is inviting all staff to serve as a Commencement Ambassador. As a thank you for your time, the university is offering gifts. Please see below. 
  • Will I be able to earn compensatory time off for my service?
  • No. Commencement Ambassadors will receive gifts for their time.
